The Hawaii Isle Police Activities League is sponsoring its annual islandwide HI-PAL Boys and Girls Intermediate Basketball League.
League play will start on September 11 and run through November 18, 2001. Teams are formed within their public or private intermediate schools, and with the help of the HI-PAL staff, they will play against other intermediate schools throughout the Big Island.
All registered seventh and eighth grade players will go through a draft system within their schools. Home school students and those attending schools that cannot form a team will be placed on teams that dont have enough players.
The league will be limited to the first 18 teams for the boys and the first 12 teams for the girls in East Hawaii. In West Hawaii, the league will be limited to the first 12 teams for boys and eight teams for girls.
A mandatory meeting for all East Hawaii returning coaches or adults interest in coaching will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, August 30, 2001, on the boys and Girls Club lanai. Adults must attend the meeting to confirm they are willing to coach a team. A West Hawaii’s coaches meeting will be announced at a later date.
Anyone interested in participating or wanting more information should call the HI-PAL East Hawaii office at 961-2219 or 961-2220 or the West Hawaii office at 326-4276.
