A search will resume Sunday (April 9, 2000) for an 80-year-old male hiker in the Koaia area of South Kohala.

The hiker, Jerry Brotherton, of Kailua, Oahu, was reported missing Saturday after he got separated from other members of a hiking party about 11 a.m. on the Puu O Umi trail off the Kohala Mountain Road (Route 250).

Police and fire personnel conducted a ground and air search for the missing hiker but failed to find him. The search was suspended Saturday night because of bad weather.

Brotherton is described as being 6 feet in height, weighing about 170 pounds with a thin build, being clean shaven and having short gray hair. He was last seen wearing a yellow top and black sweat pants.

Anyone who sees the missing hiker of knows of his whereabouts is asked to call the South Kohala police at 887-3080.
