A man who recently arrived in Hilo apparently drowned Sunday (January 30, 2000) in a stream near the Onomea Scenic Route.
The victim was identified as Eric Lamar Davis, 21, formerly of Detroit, Michigan.
Responding to a 3:11 p.m. call, fire rescue personnel pulled the victim out of about 20 feet of water in Wai’ama Stream outside Hilo at 3:30 p.m.
Davis was taken to the Hilo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:45 p.m.
Police have classified the accident as a public accident and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
