Hawai’i Police Department detectives are investigating a burglary in Hilo in which a vehicle was stolen and the victim’s credit cards were used to fraudulently obtain cash.

The burglary occurred at the Hale Moana Condominiums on Kalanianaole Avenue between January 2 and January 3. The unknown suspect entered through the front door of the apartment, possibly while the 65-year-old occupant slept. Her wallet and car keys were removed from the apartment.

The suspect then stole the woman’s car, a 1999 dark green two-door Mazda Miata. The vehicle was recovered in the Hawaii Paradise Park Subdivision on January 9. It had been set on fire.

The suspect also used the woman’s credit card at an ATM in the Kea’au area.
