The Hawaii Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating the driver who struck a pedestrian on Railroad Avenue in a hit-and-run collision.

On August 31 at 7:33 p.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle/pedestrian accident on Railroad Avenue near the intersection of Hoohua Street. A 16-year-old boy jogging south on the roadway was struck by a white Honda that fled the scene. The victim was taken to Hilo Medical Center for treatment.  Police have initiated a negligent injury investigation.

Police ask anyone with information on the driver or vehicle to call Officer Aaron Yamanaka at 935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
