A 27-year-old Hilo man is back in jail after being arrested in connection with a reported escape Friday (August 22) from the Hale Nani correctional facility.

Kalaikona Fukuhara was located in Hilo on Sunday (August 24) and taken into custody without incident. He was arrested on suspicion of second-degree escape and promoting prison contraband. He was returned to the custody of the Department of Public Safety and is being held at Hawaiʻi Community Correctional Center.

The case has been turned over to the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney for further disposition.
