On April 8, 2006, Hawaii Police Department Area I Criminal Investigation Section detectives charged a 24-year-old male for Attempted Murder and various other offenses stemming from an incident that occurred last month in South Hilo.

On March 11, 2006, South Hilo Patrol Officers responded to an apartment complex in Hilo and contacted a 20 year-old male who reported that he was assaulted by another male during the early morning hours while at a park in the Kaumana area. The victim was not seriously injured and declined medical treatment.

On March 28, 2006, police received reports from various witnesses that during the previously described March 11 incident, the 24 year-old suspect allegedly pointed a loaded handgun at the 20 year-old victim and attempted to shoot him, however the handgun did not discharge. In the course of the investigation, the handgun allegedly used in the incident was recovered by police, who then initiated an Attempted Murder, Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Separate Felony, and Place to Keep Firearm investigations. The suspect was also identified by witnesses.

Cyrus Ramo 24 years old of Hilo was arrested on April 7, 2006 at 12:32 p.m. at the Hilo police station for Attempted Murder and was held in the East Hawaii Detention Center while detectives continued their investigation.

On April 8, 2006 at 3:05 p.m., detectives charged Ramo for one count each of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the Third Degree, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Separate Felony, and Place to Keep Firearms. A total aggregate bail of $62,500.00 was set. Ramo is presently being held in the East Hawaii Detention Center.
