MEDIA RELEASE

The Hawaii County Police Department has relocated the Hilo Police Station’s Receiving Desk to the new detention facility.

Specifically, the new Receiving Desk is located off the Hualalai Street entrance to the Hilo Public Safety complex, which is located directly across from the St. Joseph High School gymnasium. The former Information Desk, located on the first floor below the Driver Licensing Section has been closed.

Captain Larry Weber, head of the South Hilo Patrol, said anyone wanting to file a complaint or who is in need of information should go to the front entrance of the detention center. Public parking is available within the parking lot fronting the detention center, he said.

Weber noted that the public may still call the “911” number for emergencies or 935-3311 for non-emergency police assistance.

The Receiving Desk was relocated in early December, and the department issued a news release about the relocation. Many members of the community apparently did not get the news, however, and reported they were confused about where to go to file a complaint or seek information, Weber said.
