A visitor from Oregon was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday evening (September 7, 1999) in Hilo’s Keaukaha area.

Brian Keimig, 18, of Beaverton, Oregon, told investigating officers that a male suspect with a gun approached him about 7:30 p.m. in a vacant lot at the corner of Kalanianaole Avenue and Leleiwi Street and demanded his money and backpack. The robber made off with the pack and its contents, valued at $940.

The suspect was described as being 5-feet-10 in height, weighing about 170 pounds with a slim build and wearing a black long-sleeved button shirt, black pants and a black ski mask.

The victim suffered minor scratches to his right arm when he was pushed down during the robbery, but he required no medical attention.

Anyone with information about the robbery or the suspect is asked to call police at 935-3311.
