Media Release

Police Chief Harry Kubojiri has asked the Hawai’i Police Activities League (HI-PAL) program to reach out to the intermediate schools island wide to engage in a friendly competition to create a pledge against ice use. The winning pledge will be used and uttered by participants before each HI-PAL event, beginning with the 30th Annual Winter Basketball Classic being held December 26-29.

The pledge must be short (four to five sentences) precise and to the point. It must include the phrase “Not Even Once,” which is part of the Hawai’i Meth Project’s message to Hawai’i’s youth. The director of the Hawai’i Meth Project, Cindy Adams, has given her blessing for this competition.

All interested intermediate school students island wide are encouraged to submit a pledge submission along with their name, age, school and grade. Pledges entries can be submitted by any of the following methods:

  1. Drop it off with the School Resource Officer at your intermediate school.
  2. Drop it off at the HI-PAL office in either Hilo or Kona.
  3. Mail it to: HI-PAL Program, c/o Hawai’i Police Dept., 349 Kapi’olani Street, Hilo, HI 96720

The competition begins Monday, November 15, and ends Monday, November 22. The selection will be made on November 23 and presented to Chief Kubojiri on November 24. The chief will recognize the author of the selected pledge at a future date prior to the start of the Winter Basketball Classic.

Good luck and remember…”Not Even Once!”
