MEDIA RELEASE

Hawaii Police Department’s Juvenile Aid Section detectives, along with Kona Patrol Division Officers, have arrested and charged a male juvenile in connection with three counts of Burglary and for Promoting a Dangerous Drug.

While responding to a reported burglary in Kailua-Kona, on Saturday, January 21, 2006, at about 5:15 P.m., Kona patrol officers received information from a homeowner, who stated that he observed a male juvenile running from his residence. After conducting checks of the neighborhood, patrol officers were able to locate and arrest the responsible juvenile.

During the arrest, officer’s recovered property taken from the caller’s residence, property from two other residences, and 2.1 grams of psilocybin were found in his possession.

Juvenile Aid Section detectives are continuing their investigation in the case and believe that the juvenile may be responsible for other recent burglaries in the Kona area.

The juvenile currently remains in custody and has been transferred to the Hawaii Youth Correctional Facility on Oahu.

Due to the nature and circumstances of the investigation, the prosecutor’s office is looking into the possibility of waiving charges in Family Court and seek prosecuting the juvenile in Circuit Court as an adult.
