MEDIA RELEASE

A 65-year-old Ka’u man died of injuries he suffered Thursday (August 18, 2005) in a one-vehicle crash on Aloha Boulevard in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision.

The victim was identified as Eddie White, of a H.O.V.E. address.

Responding to a 2:18 p.m. call, Ka’u patrol officers determined that the victim was driving a 1989 Ford F-150 pickup truck north on the road below Reef Parkway when his truck crossed the centerline and hit a utility pole.

The victim was taken to the Ka’u Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:45 p.m.

Speed and alcohol are not considered to be factors in the crash. The victim was not wearing a seatbelt when the crash occurred.

Traffic Enforcement Unit officers have initiated a coroner’s inquest investigation and ordered an autopsy to determine exact cause of death.

Because the death occurred on a private road, it was not classified as a traffic fatality for statistical purposes.
