Ka’u Man Killed in Industrial Accident 04-02-01

A 48-year-old Ka’u man was killed Monday (April 2, 2001) when he was buried by cinders while operating a loader.
The victim was identified as James Mitchell, 48, of the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision of Ka’u.
Police and fire units responded to an 11:11 a.m. call about the accident, which occurred at a quarry located on Lurline Drive in the subdivision.
Fire rescue personnel dug the victim out and took him to the Pahala Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:35 p.m.
Police have classified the death as an industrial accident and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
