Police are asking for the public’s help in recovering two computers taken from Kohala High School last February.
On Monday, February 1, 1999, teachers arrived at the school to find that the computers had been stolen from the school’s computer lab. Only the central processing units, valued at $2,000 each, were taken. The monitors were left behind.
The computers are an IBM Pentium PC 350 with the serial number 6586-37T23VXF9 and a Gateway Pentium 75MHz with the serial number 3614938.
The computers were the only ones in the school capable of logging on to the Internet, which has proven to be a valuable education tool for all students. Without the computers, the school and its students no longer have access to the Internet.
Anyone with information about the thefts or the whereabouts of the computers is asked to call Officer Duane Viloria or Captain John Dawrs of the North Kohala Patrol at 889-6540.
Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 329-8181 in Kona or 961-8300 in Hilo. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or the recovery of property. Crime Stoppers neither subscribes to “Caller ID,” nor does it record phone calls.
