Kona police detectives have charged a Kailua-Kona man with attempted murder and several other charges in connection with a reported shooting Tuesday (January 2) on Hao Kuni Street in Kailua-Kona.

Responding to a 5:54 p.m. call Tuesday, Kona patrol officers determined that a 66-year-old man was shot at several times during a confrontation near his home. The victim was not injured during the confrontation and the suspect fled the scene.

Later that evening, police took Mark Alan Coburn, 48, of Kailua-Kona into custody. Detectives charged him Thursday with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree terroristic threatening, six counts of ownership prohibited, five counts of permit to acquire and one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a separate felony. Bail was set at $100,000.

Coburn is being held at the Kona police station cellblock pending his initial court appearance.
