MEDIA RELEASE (UPDATE)

Big Island police have arrested two Kona men in connection with an attempted robbery in Kailua-Kona on Saturday (December 30).

At 11:59 a.m. Saturday, a 26-year-old man reported that he and his 16-year-old brother were waking south on Queen Kaahumanu Highway just north of Nani Kailua Drive when they were approached by a vehicle with three male occupants.

According to the victim, a man exited the vehicle from the rear passenger side with a baseball bat. He demanded the victim’s video game console and struck the victim with the bat. After a short scuffle, the suspect fled the area in the vehicle.

Detectives determined that Jason Leau, 25, of Kona was the driver of the vehicle. At 7 p.m. on December 30 they charged him with first-degree attempted robbery, first-degree terroristic threatening and second-degree assault. His bail was set at $7,000.

The next day (December 31) detectives arrested Walter Ah Mow IV, 23, of Kona and charged him with the same offenses after determining that he was the man who approached and assaulted the victim. His bail was set at $14,000.
