Charged with burglary and other offenses

MEDIA RELEASE

Big Island police have charged a 25-year-old Kailua-Kona man in connection with a burglary and an unrelated domestic dispute.

Ryan Jeffries-Hamar is being held at the Kealakehe police cellblock in lieu of $38,000 bail.

Police received a report of a burglary in progress at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday (May 16). The caller reported that the burglar removed items from a home on Kololia Street in Kailua-Kona, put the stolen items in the victim’s car and then drove away with the car and the stolen goods.

A Kona patrol officer spotted the stolen vehicle and was able to identify the driver, who fled from police. Officers arrested Jeffries-Hamar Thursday at a Kona apartment complex.

He was charged Friday with first-degree burglary, second-degree theft, third-degree criminal property damage and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.

He was also charged with abuse of a family/household member, second-degree terroristic threatening and unlawful imprisonment for allegedly choking a 30-year-old woman and threatening her with an object at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Police ask anyone with information on either incident to call Detective Sharlotte Bird at 326-4646, extension 275 or the Police Department’s non-emergency number at 935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
