MEDIA RELEASE

Kona police are investigating a reported kidnapping Friday morning (June 9, 2006) in Kailua-Kona.

A 46-year-old man reported that he was approached around 4:30 a.m. while sleeping in an abondoned vehicle on Pawai Place in the Kailua industrial area. The victim told police two men and a woman kidnapped him after he failed to provide false identification services for which he had been paid $1,000. The trio allegedly put the man in the back seat of a gray Nissan Sentra four-door sedan. While the woman drove to the Kona Palisades subdivision, the men reportedly sat with the victim in the back seat, cut him with a knife and threatened his life.

According to the victim, the suspects cleaned the blood off him and let him go after seeing partol cars in the subdivision.

The victim caught a ride to the Kona police station and filed a report at 6:30 a.m. Paramedics from the Fire Department treated him for superficial cuts to his chest and face.

Police are investigating the case as a kidnapping, assault and terroristic threatening.

Police ask anyone with any information about the case to call Detective Gary Souther from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section at 326-4646 ext. 275 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
