MEDIA RELEASE

A 35-year-old Kona man died early Sunday (August 10, 2003) of injuries he received in a single-car accident on Napoopoo Road in South Kona.

The victim was identified as David Frazier, of a Captain Cook address.

Responding to a 12:12 a.m. call, Kona patrol officers determined that the driver lost control of his vehicle while traveling west on Napoopoo Road near the eight-mile marker. The vehicle crossed the centerline, continued onto the left shoulder and overturned off the roadway, coming to a rest upside down in some bushes.

Fire rescue personnel took the victim to the Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1 a.m.

Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the accident. Traffic Enforcement Unit officers are continuing an investigation and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Frazier’s death was the 18th traffic fatality on the Big Island so far this year, compared to 17 at the same time last year.
