Media Release

The Kona Community Policing Section of the Hawai’i Police Department is holding two Neighborhood Watch meetings — one for North Kona and one for South Kona — for "active coordinators" and for persons interested in forming or joining a Neighborhood Watch. Both coordinators meetings will be approximately one hour long and will be followed by a methamphetamine presentation by a guest speaker. The methamphetamine presentation will also be open to persons interested in participating in a Neighborhood Watch program within their area.

The South Kona Neighborhood Watch area extends from Kona Coffee Villas to Miloli’i and Honomalino. The South Kona "active coordinators" meetings will start promptly at 5 p.m. September 19 at the Konawaena High School cafeteria. Anyone interested in joining or forming a Neighborhood Watch for South Kona is encouraged to attend the meeting at 6 p.m. for the methamphetamine presentation and to receive information about current Neighborhood Watches.

The North Kona Neighborhood Watch area extends from just north of Kona Coffee Villas toward Kailua-Kona and ends at Pu’uanahulu Ranch and Homesteads. The North Kona "active coordinators" meeting will start promptly at 5:30 p.m. September 20 at the Kealakehe Intermediate School cafeteria. Anyone interested in joining or forming a neighborhood watch for North Kona is encouraged to attend the meeting at 6:30 p.m. for the methamphetamine presentation and to receive information about current Neighborhood Watches.

"Active coordinators" are asked to contact Sergeant William Souther by e-mail at wsouther @co.hawaii.hi.us for an agenda and regarding questions.
