Kona police are seeking information about a burglary that occurred Friday (May 31, 2002) at a residence in the Kona Scenic Subdivision in Kealakekua.

Sometime between 1:15 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., a burglar or burglars broke into the home and stole a variety of items valued at more than $19,000.

The thieves entered the home by removing a screen and opening a sliding glass window.

They took two attache cases from an office located on the first floor, rummaged through drawers on the second floor and stole a number of items, including several rings, necklaces, watches, a small koa bowl and a men’s wallet.

Anyone with information about the burglary or the identities of the burglars is asked to call the Kona police at 326-4646 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 329-8181 in Kona or 961-8300 in Hilo. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or the recovery of property. Crime Stoppers neither subscribes to “Caller ID,” nor does it record phone calls.
