Media Release

Big Island police are asking for the public’s help in identifying two men responsible for a robbery Sunday night (July 24) in Kailua-Kona.

A 20-year-old Kailua-Kona man and a 24-year-old Kailua-Kona woman were walking along the Mauka side of Kuakini Highway just north of the Kamaʻaina Hale apartments sometime between 9:45 p.m. and 10 p.m. when two local males came out of the bushes. One was holding a rock and the other demanded money from the male victim. When the victim said he didn’t have any, the man who had asked for it struck him in the face with his fist. The woman then gave the suspects cash and they fled on foot, crossing the street and down an unimproved dirt road that runs between Kuakini Highway and Ali’i Drive.

The male victim sustained a cut lip and some bruising but required no medical attention.

One of the suspects was described as 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9, 160 to 180 pounds with short hair and a deep voice. He was wearing blue jeans and a dark shirt that appeared to have a faded design on the abdomen area.

The other suspect was described as about 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10, 200 to 223 pounds with long hair. He was wearing blue jeans and a jersey shirt inside an unbuttoned plaid dark gray-and-white dress shirt.
