On October 14, 2010, at approximately 7:05 p.m., Kona Patrol Officers responded to a report of a disturbance and a gun shot fired in a residential area in Kailua-Kona.

Upon arrival, officers contacted a witness who identified two adult men being seen leaving a residence in the area; one of the men reported to be in possession of two firearms and, shortly after, hearing a gun shot.

Police located the two men and recovered a rifle within the area, then arrested Makalii Taketa (M-19) of Kailua-Kona, for place to keep loaded firearm, place to keep unloaded firearm, place to keep ammunition, permit(s) to acquire firearm, and promoting a detrimental drug in the third degree.

Police also arrested Taei Mu (M-18) of Kailua-Kona, who had two outstanding bench warrants for criminal contempt of court and for an unrelated assault case which Mu was wanted for questioning. Mu was charged for the offenses and is being held at the Kona Police cellblock in lieu of $1,400, pending his initial court appearance.

Taketa is being held at the Kona Police cellblock pending further investigation by detectives with the Area II Criminal Investigation Section.
