A 52-year-old Kailua-Kona man died Sunday (September 4, 2005) from injuries he received in a motorcycle crash on Route 190, .1 mile south of the 21 mile marker in the Puuanahulu area of North Kona.

Responding to a 1:21 p.m. call, Kona patrol officers determined that the victim was operating a 1991 Harley Davidson motorcycle and traveling north on Route 190 when he ran off the right side of the road and struck a wall.

The victim was transported to the Kona community Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:28 p.m.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of the next of kin.

It is unknown at this time if speed or alcohol contributed to this crash.

Traffic Enforcement Unit officers have initiated a coroner’s inquest case and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

This is the 24th traffic fatality on the Big Island this year, compared to 28 at the same time last year.
