Kona Vice Section officers arrested a 35-year-old woman Wednesday (November 20, 2002) after chasing her down on foot during a drug stakeout.

The suspect, Cheryl “Kahea” Kahoalii, of Kalaoa, North Kona, was taken to Honolulu, where she is being held without bail at the Federal Detention Center.

Responding to complaints of possible drug activity from tenants of the Coconut Grove market place and Alii Sunset Plaza, the vice officers conducted a surveillance of the areas.

About 4:45 p.m. Wednesday,officers observed Kahoalii drive up in a 1988 Honda Accord. Knowing that shewas wanted on a federal indictment stemming from a previous narcotic arrest, the officers approached the suspect, who fled on foot.

After chasing her down and arresting her on the strenth of the federal indictment, the officers obtained search warrants for Kahoalii’s handbag and automobile. Executing the search warrants, they found 61.8 grams of crystal methamphetamine and 25.1 grams of cocaine, packaged for distribution, as well as a scale and other drug paraphernalia.

The officers then seized for forfeiture the automobile, gold jewelry, a cellular telephone and a camera.

At 6 p.m. Thursday, Kona vice officers assisted agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation with a federal search warrant for Kahoalii’s residence in Kalaoa.

There, federal agents found more crystal methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. They also seized for forfeiture a television set, 105 DVD’s, DVD and VCR players, a slot machine, stereo equipment, two laptop computers, a palm pilot and other items.
