…charged with second-degree assault

Media Release

East Hawaii detectives charged a 26-year-old Puna man with second-degree assault in connection with a beating that occurred on January 27 at a bar in the Hilo industrial area.  Joshua Labrador was charged with the offense this past Friday (February 29) and was released after a family member posted $2,000 bail.

In the early morning hours of January 27, South Hilo patrol officers responded to a reported affray in progress at the bar located on Maka’ala Street and were encountered by a large group of rowdy individuals, some of whom were still challenging others in the crowd to fight.

The officers were eventually able to quell the aggression and took into custody two men with the aid of an Electronic Control Device (ECD) commonly known as a "Taser." Arrested for second-degree assault were 28-year-old Jarrett Labrador and 25-year-old Shane Pacarro, both of Puna.

A 33-year-old male patron of the drinking establishment sustained multiple fractures to his lower jaw during the fracas. The victim’s sister was struck also and sustained a deep laceration to her face. Fire/rescue personnel took both victims to Hilo Medical Center. The female victim was treated for her injuries and later released. The male victim was treated and later flown to The Queens Medical Center for further treatment.

Pacarro was later released pending further investigation. Jarrett Labrador was charged with third-degree assault, in connection with a portion of the assault on the male party, as well as disorderly conduct. He was released after posting $300 bail.

Joshua Labrador is schedule to make his initial court appearance on April 1 in South Hilo District Court.
