MEDIA RELEASE

A 65-year-old man died Sunday (June 12, 2005) of injuries he sustained in a one-car crash on Waikoloa Road near the four-mile marker.

The victim was identified as Paul Wrigglesworth of a Waikoloa address.

Responding to a 9:16 p.m. call, South Kohala patrol officers determined that the victim was driving a 1989 Mazda two-door sedan west on Waikoloa Road when he ran off the right side of the road.

The victim was taken to the North Hawaii Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:10 p.m.

Investigators said speed may have been a contributing cause in this crash.

Traffic Enforcement Unit officers have initiated a coroner’s inquest case and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Sunday’s death was the 17th traffic fatality on the Big Island so far this year, compared to 20 at the same time last year.
