Police are looking for three males who beat a third male in what has been classified as an attempted murder early Saturday (February 17, 2001) in downtown Hilo.
At 2:24 a.m., South Hilo Patrol units responded to a report of an affray at Keawe and Kalakaua Streets.
On arrival, they found a male victim who told them he had been beaten by man brandishing a baseball bat and machete. As the victim attempted to flee, he said, he was also run over by a second man driving a car on Keawe Street.
The victim was taken to the Hilo Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a white newer model Honda four-door sedan with a cracked front windshield and possible damage to the hood.
They are also seeking three male suspects, all described as Filipino.
One of the suspects was described as being a man in his early 20s, being 6 feet in height, weighing about 190 pounds with a medium build, having short dark-colored hair and wearing a flannel shirt of unknown color and an unknown type of pants
The second man, the driver, was described as being in his early 30s, being 5-foot-5 in height, weighing about 170 pounds with a stocky build and having short dark hair.
Police have no description of the third suspect.
Anyone with information about the vehicle or the suspects is asked to call Detective Richard Miyamoto of the Hilo Criminal Investigation Section at 961-2379 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or the recovery of property.
