A Puna man was arrested this week and charged with arson and other offenses in connection with a domestic dispute.

On Monday (November 24), police responded to a 3 p.m. report of a verbal argument in Hawaiian Beaches. When they arrived, they learned that a 25-year-old Puna man had reportedly gotten into a domestic argument with his parents and damaged their vehicle, broken two windows to their house and set fire to their living room carpet. The parents were able to extinguish the fire.

At 3:40 p.m., police located the son, Anthony-James Murray of Pāhoa, a short distance away. He was arrested and taken to the Hilo police cellblock while detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section continued the investigation.

At 2:50 p.m. Wednesday (November 26), detectives charged him with abuse, second-degree criminal property damage and third-degree arson. His bail was set at $5,000. He remained at the cellblock until his initial court appearance on Friday (November 28).
