A Hilo man has been arrested after allegedly stealing two vehicles belonging to the County of Hawaiʻi.

On Monday (March 3), South Hilo Patrol officers responded to a report that a 2007 Ford Explorer had been stolen from a Hawaiʻi County agency on Pauahi Street in Hilo.

Later Monday, police recovered the car from Ipuka Street in Hilo and arrested 19-year-old Reynold K. Kalima on suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle. He was taken the Hilo police cellblock while detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section continued the investigation.

Investigation revealed that a 2008 Ford Explorer had been stolen from another county agency on Kekuanaoa Street and had been returned to the county with a broken window.

At 4:30 p.m. Wednesday (March 5), Kalima was charged with unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, criminal property damage and two counts of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle. His bail was set at $8,000.

He remained at the cellblock until his initial court appearance on Thursday (March 6).
