Media Release

Acting on a tip from the public developed late Tuesday afternoon, May 12, 2009, detectives assigned to the Kona Criminal Investigation Section in conjunction with Hawai’i Fire Department Air Rescue conducted an aerial search of Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway, between Kaiminani Drive and OTEC Road, for 48 year old Everdina Malasig of Kealakekua, who was reported missing on Monday, May 4, 2009.

The body of Everdina Malasig was located in a lava field about 100 yards off the west shoulder of Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway and just south of the OTEC park entrance early Tuesday evening. Malasig was transported from the scene to the Kona Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Detectives do not suspect foul play and an autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

At the time of her disappearance, Malasig was suffering from a medical condition requiring medication. Police would like to thank the public who provided information leading to the recovery of Mrs. Malasig.
