MEDIA RELEASE

Police are reminding Hilo motorists to exercise extra caution when traveling along Waianuenue Avenue during the morning and afternoon hours of school.

Hilo High School authorities report that there seems to be an increase in violations during the hours when special traffic patterns are in effect.

Motorists are reminded that on school days:

• Between 7:15 and 8 a.m., no parking is allowed along either side of Waianuenue Avenue in the vicinity of the high school.

• Between 7:15 and 8 a.m., driving against the one-way makai traffic pattern is prohibited.

• Between 1 and 3:30 p.m., traffic heading makai is prohibited from turning left against the traffic flow onto the high school campus.

Acting Lieutenant Randy Apele said patrol officers will be enforcing the special traffic rules on school days to ensure compliance.
