Detectives from the Kona Criminal Investigation Section and Juvenile Aid Section have arrested three male juveniles in connection with a robbery that occurred Sunday (February 28, 1999) in the garage area outside a home in Hawi, North Kohala.
All three juveniles, two of them 17 and the other 16, were released to the custody of their parents. Kona CIS and JAS detectives are continuing the investigation.
In the robbery, the caretaker of the home in Hawi surprised two young males in the garage area.
The suspects allegedly threatened the victim’s life with a long wooden handle and metal rod they took from the garage and demanded money. They took the victim’s wallet, which contained about $1,000 in cash, and fled on foot.
The victim later discovered that the home he was caring for had been burglarized, and a derringer pistol was missing.
