MEDIA RELEASE

Big Island police have renewed their request for the public’s help in locating a male fugitive from Oahu.

The man, Stacy Young, also known as “Hoku,” is wanted on Oahu for two jewelry store robberies. He was out on supervised release when he failed to appear in Circuit Court on July 22, 1999. The court has issued two warrants for a total of $170,000.

Police say the fugitive was seen earlier this month at a hotel on Banyan Drive in Hilo.

Young, 31, is described as being of Hawaiian-Filipino descent, being 5-feet-7 in height, weighing about 170 pounds with a slim build, having a tan complexion and black straight neck-length hair and brown eyes. He may also have a wispy mustache and goatee.

Police said Young may be in the company of a female. The female, 34, is described as being of Japanese descent, being 5-feet-5 in height, weighing about 125 pounds and having black hair and brown eyes. She also has a prominent mole on the left side of her face below her lower lip.

Police said Young is considered armed and dangerous and warned residents against approaching him.

Anyone with information about either of the couple’s whereabouts is asked to call Detective Greg Esteban of the Hilo Criminal Investigation Section at 961-2384.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or the recovery of property. Crime Stoppers neither subscribes to “Caller ID,” nor does it record phone calls.
