The Aloha Exchange Club of East Hawai’i recognized South Hilo Patrol Officer Joseph Feliciano on Thursday (May 27) as “Officer of the Month” for May.
Feliciano solved a rash of crimes when he linked two car break-ins a month apart by dusting both vehicles for fingerprints. That led to the identity of the suspect, who is now in jail awaiting trial on numerous crimes, including multiple car break-ins, auto thefts and burglaries.
“Dusting for fingerprints is a tedious process,” said Sergeant Allan Watanabe, who nominated Feliciano for the award. “This fact did not deter Feliciano, a 25-year veteran, from doing a thorough investigation. Officer Feliciano’s unrelenting loyalty to his profession and his community has made it possible to enact further justice on a public menace.”
As “Officer of the Month,” Feliciano is eligible for “Officer of the Year.”
The East Hawaii “Officer of the Month” award is a project of the Aloha Exchange Club of Hilo.
