Media Release

The Kona Crime Prevention Committee recognized Officer Jason Foxworthy as “Officer of the Month” for February in a luncheon ceremony on Wednesday (February 1) at Huggo’s restaurant in Kailua-Kona.

Foxworthy was honored for risking his own safety to break up a fight.

While responding to anther call on December 21, Officer Foxworthy came upon a fight between two men in front of Magic Sands Beach Park. One of the men was calling for help.

Foxworthy attempted to break up the fight but the aggressor, a mixed martial arts fighter, refused to stop. Foxworthy was kicked several times over a period of approximately five minutes before he succeeded in placing handcuffs on the fighter.

Sergeant Raymond Childers recommended Foxworthy for the award because of his outstanding performance in breaking up the fight. “You never know what you’re going to come across doing this job,” Childers said, “and he demonstrated the ability to step up and do the right thing.”

As “Officer of the Month,” Foxworthy is eligible to become “Officer of the Year.” The Kona Crime Prevention Committee is an organization that encourages community involvement in aiding and supporting police in West Hawaiʻi.
