Media Release

The Kona Crime Prevention Committee recognized Officer Jeremy "Scotty" Lewis as "Officer of the Month" for January in a luncheon ceremony Wednesday (January 6) at Paddlers Restaurant at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.

Lewis was honored for developing information that led to the arrest of a 19-year-old Kona man for a crime spree in the Kailua-Kona area during October and November. The crimes included burglaries, thefts, auto thefts and car break-ins.

Because of Lewis’ arrest, police were able to recover many of the stolen items, including all of the stolen vehicles and mopeds and a large number of keys to houses, condominiums and cars.

"Officer Jeremy ‘Scotty’ Lewis displays an outstanding grasp of the concepts of police investigation and is committed to providing a safe environment for the community," said Lieutenant Harold Sumaoang, who nominated Lewis for the award. "His initiative, ability and commitment reflect great credit upon himself and the department."

As "Officer of the Month," Lewis is eligible to become "Officer of the Year."

The Kona Crime Prevention Committee is an organization that encourages community involvement in aiding and supporting police in West Hawai’i.
