“Officer of the Month” for June

Media Release

The Aloha Exchange Club of Hilo recognized Vice Officer John Weber as “Officer of the Month” for June in a luncheon ceremony Thursday.

Weber was recognized for executing five search warrants in June that led to 12 arrests and the recovery of 1,059 marijuana plants, 35 pounds of dried marijuana, 14 grams of hashish, extensive indoor marijuana-growing equipment, $3,103 in cash and three firearms, including a stolen 9 mm semi-automatic pistol.

Weber’s supervisor, Lieutenant Samuel Jelsma, noted that off-island assignments kept Weber elsewhere for all but 15 working days during June. That means the officer served search warrants on the average of once every three days. According to Jelsma, that is an “incredible feat,” considering how much work is required to serve each warrant.

Weber was also East Hawaii Officer of the Month for April and is eligible for Officer of the Year.

The East Hawaii Officer of the Month award is a project of the Aloha Exchange Club of Hilo.
