MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Police recovered the vehicle that was involved in the attempted murder of a Traffic Enforcement Unit Officer in Hawaii Ocean View Estates (H.O.V.E.) today, January 24, 2000.

On Sunday, January 23, 2000, at about 09:15 p.m., the officer was attempting to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation in the Milolii area on Route 11. The vehicle refused to stop and began speeding away. The officer pursued the vehicle into H.O.V.E. when the passenger of the vehicle used a firearm and fired it at the Officer. Officer was not injured but his vehicle did sustain damage as a result of the discharge of the firearm.

The vehicle recovered is a 1985 silver Nissan 300 ZX 2 door sedan. Vehicle was towed back to the Kona Station where Detectives processed the vehicle and recovered evidence.

Detectives were following up leads in the H.O.V.E. area on January 24, 2000, for the purpose of developing identities of the two suspects who were in the 1985 silver Nissan two-door sedan. The Kona Criminal Investigation Section will be continuing the investigation.
