Big Island police are reminding Hilo motorists that one-way traffic patterns on portions of Waianuenue Avenue and Kapiolani Street are now in effect.
The one-way patterns took effect Monday morning (July 30, 2007) because schools are opening for the fall semester.
From 7:15 to 8 a.m. on school days, traffic on Waianuenue Avenue between Komohana Street and Kamehameha Avenue is one way in the makai direction. During the same hours, traffic along Kapiolani Street between Waianuenue Avenue and Haili Street is one way in the Puna direction.
Police are reminding all motorists to be on the lookout for students walking to and from schools island wide.
