The body of a U.S. park ranger was found Sunday (December 12, 1999) at the Kaloko-Honokohau National Historic Park in North Kona.
Responding to an 11:21 a.m. call, Kona police found the body of Ranger Steve Makuakane-Jarrell, 47, in a brush area of the park near the shoreline.
Makuakane-Jarrell suffered an apparent gunshot wound, police said.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation, assisted by Kona Criminal Investigation Section detectives, is leading an investigation into the death. Police have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
