Pedestrian struck by hit and run driver 10-31-05

Big Island police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a driver and vehicle involved in a hit-and-run accident on Monday morning (October 31, 2005) that seriously injured a pedestrian.
About 5:00 a.m., Hilo patrol officers responded to a report of a traffic accident involving a pedestrian on Kilauea Avenue, near Kapiolani School, in Hilo.
Police determined that a 48-year old Hilo woman, was crossing Kilauea Avenue, heading in the makai direction, when she was struck by a vehicle that was traveling on Kilauea Avenue in the downtown Hilo direction. The woman was not in a crosswalk at the time of the collision.
The woman sustained multiple injuries and was transported to the Hilo Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition.
The vehicle may have a broken headlight and other front end damage.
Police have initiated a negligent injury investigation and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident or who may have information about the driver or the car involved in the hit-and-run to call Officer Jason Grouns of the South Hilo Patrol Division at 961-2213 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
