Big Island detectives have charged a 20-year-old Pepeʻekeo woman in connection with a burglary last week in Pepeʻekeo.

Police responded to a reported burglary in progress on Maukaloa Street in Pepeʻekeo on Thursday (July 5) after neighbors observed a woman running from a residence  around 11:30 a.m.  Responding officers checked the house and determined that an attempt had been made to gain entry, causing damage to a glass pane.

Neighborhood checks conducted throughout the area led to the identification of the responsible person. Investigation revealed that she may have been injured as a result of the attempted entry and then fled the scene in a vehicle.

At 1 p.m., police arrested Shaylyn Momi Araw in the Paukaʻa area of Hilo.

On Friday (July 6) detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section charged Araw with attempted first-degree burglary, a Class B felony.

The driver of the suspect vehicle, 21-year-old Robert N. Navor of Pepeʻekeo, was also arrested but was subsequently released without charges.
