MEDIA RELEASE

Kona police and the State Attorney General’s Office will co-sponsor a community meeting to address the problem of clandestine drug laboratories within Hawaii communities.

The program will focus on community awareness of persons involved in the manufacture of methamphetamine; the hazards and resulting problems that are created by the use of toxic and highly flammable chemicals; and the toxic wastes that are dumped into the environment.

The meeting will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, February 11, 2002, at Kealakehe Intermediate School.

Instructors for the public meeting will be law enforcement officers from the state of Missouri who are assigned to drug task forces that specifically investigate the manufacture of methamphetamine throughout the Midwestern states.

Anyone interested in bettering the community is invited to attend the free event. Anyone with questions about the meeting may call Lieutenant Robert Hickcox of the Kona Vice Section at 326-4205.
