Hilo Vice Section officers arrested 12 people Monday (October 9, 2000) in a raid on a Hilo home where “crack” cocaine was being manufactured.

At 1:43 p.m., officers raided a residence at 120 Kaieie Place, arrested eight men and four women and confiscated 7 grams of cocaine, 4.9 grams of “crack,” 13.8 grams of crystal methamphetamine, or “ice”, 107.6 grams of marijuana, 7 tablets of an unknown substance, $296 in cash and drug paraphernalia.

During the execution of a drug warrant, the officers discovered that “crack” cocaine was about to be manufactured with the 7 grams of cocaine, boiling water, baking power, a glass measuring tube and a scale.

A 24-year-old male at the residence was arrested for first-degree promotion of a dangerous drug for manufacturing the “crack.” He was also arrested on three counts of possessing drug paraphernalia, two counts of promoting dangerous drugs, one count of promoting a detrimental drug and one count of promoting harmful drugs.

The 11 other adults were arrested for various drug offenses, including promoting dangerous drugs, promoting detrimental drugs, promoting harmful drugs and possessing drug paraphernalia.

The 12 suspects, ranging in age from 19 to 47, were released pending further investigation.
