Hilo Criminal Investigation Section detectives have arrested and charged two persons — a man and a woman — in separate burglaries.
In the first case, police charged a 38-year-old Puna woman with first-degree burglary Friday (May 2, 2003).
Brualani Ann Mulleitner, of a Hawaiian Paradise Park address, a parolee, was arrested and charged after a female victim returned home Saturday (April 26, 2003) to find a light-colored van leaving her Hawaiian Paradise Park residence. Once inside, the woman discovered that several items had been stolen, and she called police.
Police quickly located the van at the suspect’s residence and got a warrant to search the van. Officers recovered the items stolen from the victim’s house from it.
Mulleitner’s bail was set at $5,000, and she is currently incarcerated at the Hawaii Community Correctional Center.
In the second case, police charged a 39-year-old Hilo man Friday with two counts of first-degree burglary, one count of felony theft and one count of misdemeanor theft.
The suspect, identified Jeremy Dean Calicdan, is being held in the Hilo police cellblock in lieu of $26,000 bail.
Calicdan was arrested after a Hilo woman returned to her upper Waiakea home on Wednesday (April 30, 2003) to find pickup truck parked in her garage.
The owner of the pickup truck, told the victim he was looking for someone she didn’t know, then drove off with a female, identified as Nalani Carvalho, 23, of a Hilo address.
On checking her home, the victim found that several articles had been taken, and she notified police.
Acting on her description of the truck and its license number, police located and recovered the truck. They obtained a search warrant and found stolen items in the suspect’s pickup.
Calicdan’s companion, Carvalho, has been released pending further investigation by Hilo Criminal Investigation Section detectives.
Police also suspect that Calicdan may be responsible for other burglaries in Puna and South Hilo. They are asking that anyone who may have noticed a suspicious blue Dodge Ram 50 pickup truck in their neighborhood to call Detective Greg Esteban of the Hilo CIS at 961-2384.
