Police Chief James S. Correa is advising Big Island motorists to drive with extra caution in the event of a strike by public school teachers.
The Hawaii State Teachers Association has declared an impasse in labor negotiations with the State of Hawaii and has called for a strike at all public schools on Thursday (April 5, 2001).
If a strike actually occurs, Chief Correa said, motorists should be aware there will be increased pedestrian traffic and traffic slowdowns in areas surrounding public schools.
He urged motorists to exercise extra caution when entering or leaving public school facilities.
