MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE
Big Island police are asking for the public’s help in developing information that could lead to an arrest in the slaying last January of Kallen James Agliam, 19, of Pepeekeo.
Detectives have information that the victim was last seen at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2001, in the Pepeekeo area with one or possibly two males in a newer model gray Toyota pickup truck. The two may be suspects in the case.
The victim was seen driving toward the area where his body was later found. His vehicle was being followed by the pickup truck.
Agliam’s body was found that evening after South Hilo police responded to a 5:17 p.m. report from a passerby that the body of a man was lying on the shoulder of the old Hilo Coast Processing Plant road. An autopsy later determined that the victim had died of a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Police have established a hot line for any information about the slaying. The number to call is 961-2378, and it will be manned from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays.
Anyone with information about the shooting may also call Detective Grace Castillo of the Hilo Criminal Investigation Section at 961-2377 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. Crime Stoppers keeps the identity of callers strictly confidential.
