Police Ice Task Force makes arrest 11-06-03

The Hawaii Police Department’s Area I Ice Task Force executed search warrants on two different vehicles in unrelated investigations leading to the arrests of two individuals during the first week of November.
In the first investigation conducted on November 3, 2003, officers executed a search warrant upon the vehicle being used by a George Pavao III, M-45 of the Eden Roc subdivision in Puna. Officers arrested Pavao on 4 counts of promoting a dangerous drug, 3 counts of Promoting a Harmful drug, 1 count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, 1 count of Promoting a Detrimental Drug and 1 count of (firearms) Ownership Prohibited. The arrests were the result of recovering 10.9 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 4 grams of “Crack” cocaine, 41.2 grams of “Processed” marijuana, 31 Clonazepam pills, 9 Hydrocodone tablets, 31 Diazepam tablets and 8 .22 caliber bullets. Task Force Officers working in conjunction with agents from the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (BATF) did refer the case to the United States Attorney’s Office for federal prosecution under the Project Safe Neighborhood Act. This act allows for federal prosecution when a drug user is in possession of firearms or ammunition.
In the second investigation conducted on November 5, 2003, officers executed a search warrant upon the vehicle being used by Bill Kamoku, M-45 of an E. Lanikaula street address in Hilo. Officers arrested Kamoku for 1 count of Promoting a Dangerous Drug, 1 count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and 1 count of Promoting a Detrimental Drug. These arrests were the result of the recovery of 2.2 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 10.3 grams of marijuana, a digital scale and drug packaging material. Police have charged Kamoku for the offenses and he is being held in custody pending arraignment and his bail has been set at $4,500.
The Hawaii Police Department has also announced that both of the three-man Ice Task Forces on both sides of the island have now been fully staffed as of November 1, 2003. These long anticipated task forces will enable the department to respond more rapidly to citizen complaints involving crystal methamphetamine distribution. The department requests anyone having information concerning crystal methamphetamine distribution to call the “Ice” hotlines in Hilo at 934-vice (934-8423) or Kona at 329-0ice (329-0423).
