Police have identified a 6-year-old girl whose body was found Thursday (September 27, 2001) in a vacant house in the Hawaiian Beaches subdivision of Puna.

The girl was identified as Kauilani Tadeo, who died as the result of blunt force trauma to the head, according to the results of an autopsy conducted Friday.

Police have classified the case as a murder.

The girl was reported missing from her Hawaiian Beaches home at 6:03 p.m. Police and fire rescue searchers found her body at 8:30 p.m. in a vacant house on Opihi Street in the same neighborhood where she lived.

They are asking that anyone with information about the slaying or who observed unusual activity Thursday afternoon or evening to call Detective Andrew S. Burian of the Hilo Criminal Investigation Section at 961-2381 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
